iTunes - Music - Do It - Single by Imar Shephard

NOT many artistes or producers have had a lot of success blending reggae with soca, but for his latest song, singer "Imar Shepherd" thought fusing the two sounds would be a good idea.

"Do It" is the title of the song which is now available on "itunes" by "Nyah Bless Music" a Philadelphia-based company.

Do It is a song that empowers the ladies; there are not a lot of those around today," said Imar Shepherd. He added that Do It is also a stress-buster: "People can get up in the morning and exercise to it; it's real uptempo."

Shepherd has been recording with Nyah Bless for the last three years, but Do It is his first release for the label.

Born Omar Shephard, he is originally from Richmond Gap, St Thomas, and has been recording since 2007. His first release, Woman I Love You, was done in 2007 with Demarco.

This was followed by songs for various producers including 'Calibud' (Black and Beautiful) and Carl Morrison (Africa).

Imar said he have the material and a great team working with and just need for all radio dj to support, as well as his friends and fans to make his dreams into a reailty.

Whitney Daughter found unresponsive in bathtub

The daughter of late singer and entertainer Whitney Houston was found unresponsive in a bathtub Saturday and taken to a hospital in the north Atlanta suburbs, police said.

Bobbi Kristina Brown was found by her husband, Nick Gordon, and a friend and given CPR, said Officer Lisa Holland, a spokeswoman for the Roswell Police Department. When police arrived, they gave Brown additional care until she was taken alive to North Fulton Hospital.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.

Brown is the daughter of Houston and R&B singer Bobby Brown. A representative for the family did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

Whitney Houston was found dead in a hotel bathtub on Feb. 11, 2012, in Beverly Hills, California. The 48-year-old Houston had struggled for years with cocaine, marijuana and pills, and her behaviour had become erratic.

Authorities examining Houston's death found a dozen prescription drug bottles in the hotel suite. They concluded that Houston accidentally drowned. Heart disease and cocaine use were listed as contributing factors in Houston's death.

Over her career, Houston sold more than 50 million records in the United States alone. Her voice, an ideal blend of power, grace and beauty, made classics out of songs like "Saving All My Love For You," ''I Will Always Love You," ''The Greatest Love of All" and "I'm Every Woman." Her six Grammys were only a fraction of her many awards.

Houston had her first No. 1 hit by the time she was 22, followed by a flurry of number one songs and multiplatinum

King Sporty, "Buffalo Soldier" Songwriter, Dies at 71

Noel “King Sporty” Williams, reggae songwriter and DJ, died at Jackson Memorial Hospital Monday evening. He was 71.

Williams was a prolific, if not widely known, musician. He made several contributions to popular music -- including penning the Bob Marley hit “Buffalo Soldier.”

Roger Lewis, Sporty’s friend and member of the Grammy Award-winning band Inner Circle, reflects on Williams -- who he says was a key figure in the formation of Miami’s musical styles.

“Sporty was a legend,” Lewis said by phone Tuesday. “He was the glue that held the music community together. We had a real fraternity.”

Lewis met Williams in 1977. He says the Jamaica-born Sporty had been in Miami since the late ‘60s, contributing to local music for years.

“He created that whole Miami sound,” Lewis said. “That groove sound with that island flavor.”

King Sporty was married to Miami resident and R&B and soul musician Betty Wright, who achieved fame in the 1970s and ‘80s with singles like “Clean Up Woman” and “No Pain, No Gain.”

Betty Wright.

“Sporty gave her the muscle to fight for her rights and her publishing,” says DJ Tom Laroc, Williams' friend and fellow musician. “He helped make her a very empowered woman in the music business.”

"Going to his house was an experience," Laroc said. "It's the same reggae studio from the 1970s."

Laroc says King Sporty wrote over 400 songs during his lifetime, including Bob Marley’s "Pimper's Paradise" and his own piece, "Self Destruct" — which was sampled in the Justin Timberlake song "That Girl.”

Williams was the recipient of the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

West Kingston Jamboree is back!

 Event link
AFTER a four-year absence the annual "West Kingston Jamboree" returns to the Tivoli Gardens play-field in Kingston on Sunday 7th of December 2014
The stage show -- which had its genesis in 1999 -- was discontinued by the security forces after the unrest of May 2010 which saw 73 civilians losing their lives. Three members of Jamaica's security forces also lost their lives in the operation. An inquiry in that incident is currently under way at Jamaica Conference Center in downtown Kingston.
"West Kingston on a whole has been through a lot. Based on the trauma and the things that the community went through, they need some form of stress relief," said Oneil Coke, director of Liv Up Records, whose company is organizing the event.
According to Coke, entertainment events have been lacking since 2010, but with the revival of Jamboree there will be more in store.
Scheduled for a 7:00 pm start, Sunday's performances include Dancehall acts such as Beenie Man, Sizzla, I-Octane, Elephant Man, Demarco, Christopher Martin, George Nooks, Horace Andy, Ken Boothe, Major Mackerel, Bugle, I Shawna, Cutty Corn, Dontay Crime and many more.
"Everyone knows what to expect when it come on to West Kingston Jamboree," said Coke.
He told the Jamaica Observer and Djslick44 Music News that the event is about 'oneness'. He said he is urging patrons from the surrounding communities and other parishes to come out and have fun together.
"Jamboree has always been the show. It's a Jamaica show, come out, you will be totally safe," he said.
Preceding the stage show is a fun day which will include football, netball and other competitions.
Coke also expressed thanks to Senior Superintendent of Police Steve McGregor, head of the West Kingston Police Division, and the artistes who made the event possible.

He is no stranger to controversy, dancehall artiste Alkaline is once again making headlines for his latest song Anywhere We Go, which makes disparaging remarks about Bounty Killer and selector Foota Hype.

In the controversial song, the artiste deejays:

"Me gal friend know how the ting go and she haffi buil or she will get a right...

The preview of the song, which was produced by ZJ Chrome, was released two days ago and has already been making the rounds on social media, with fans of the Grung Gaad calling for a boycott of Alkaline.

Not one to hold back, Bounty Killer immediately took to Instagram and berated ZJ Chrome for the song.

"Boy Chrome you celebrating to produce a song a diss me. Nice, mi like it. Although me done know you are a Gaza fg from long time. Anything unuh get, unuh fi tek."

Chrome immediately responded, informing Bounty Killer that he was not celebrating but rather promoting his production.

When contacted, Foota Hype told THE STAR that the song was not important to him.

"That song is unimportant to me. The line that Alkaline said about me is more fitting to him. Anybody look pon Foota Hype see that I am a real and straight man. When I look at that creature, I see somebody that is shaky. Alkaline is the ultimate meaning of shakiness," Foota Hype said.

He also blasted Alkaline for his obsession with Vybz Kartel.

"I am the most talked about human being in dancehall right now so of course Alkaline a go call me name. Alkaline just caan handle the fact that Kartel is the hottest deejay in a dancehall. Him a dress like Kartel and a tief the man style. Him obsessed with Kartel. Dem better put him in Addi cell," Foota Hype told THE STAR.
