New Single And Slang, Titled Ugly Up Di Counter Creating A buzz

Up-and-coming dancehall artiste Fyah Torche is promoting his new single and slang, titled 'Ugly Up Di Counter', featuring Big Star.

The single was produced by DJ Speng of Calico Mix Production and has been getting favourable feedback in the dancehall circle. The artiste explained how he came up with the slang.
"It was my birthday and I was at my friend's bar in Golden Heights. We were drinking liquor of all kinds and the slang just came up 'ugly up di counter'.

From there, it was like it became viral and everybody began to say it, so the next step was that we made it into a song and took it to the dancehall, and it is catching on with everybody real fast," said Fyah Torche.

Fyah Torche also said the slang is gaining momentum in New York since the label which produced the accompanying record has been executing it's own promotions.
"I have been doing street promotions and the next step is to go to commercial radio, yu nuh. One step at a time," he said.

Pastor Proud Of Mr Vegas, And Want Beenie, Bounty To Inspire Positive Change In The Nation's Youths.

Renowned minister of religion, Reverend Herro Blair Jr, said he is actively praying for a number of dancehall artistes, who he hopes will soon turn their lives over to the Lord, and influence the nation's misguided youths to follow suit.

The reverend said dancehall artiste Mr Vegas, who recently announced that he has taken up the Christian walk, was among the list of dancehall artistes he is praying for. Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, D'Angel, and Shabba are also holding high spots on his list.

"I'm very proud of Mr Vegas. I've been following him personally for the last three years and I've been waiting for this moment. In fact, I've been praying, and I've been anticipating it. There are a few others that I'm personally praying for," Blair revealed .

original list

He said that he has been praying for various dancehall artistes for about 26 years, and Shabba is the only person on the original list who has not yet turned his life of the Lord.

"Back in the 80s, I was a Junior Tucker fan, and I prayed for him. I prayed for Chevelle Franklyn. I prayed for Lieutenant Stitchie. I prayed for Papa San. Shabba still hasn't come around, but his mother says he's coming," Blair said.

positive change

He explained that he does not necessarily want the artistes on his current list to become Christian entertainers, but for them to give their lives to the Lord and continue using their influence to inspire positive change in the nation's youths.

"These guys (artistes) have been able to influence Jamaican men over the years, so my prayer has been that when they get saved they sing positive music to transform the nation, not necessarily gospel music, but positive songs that appeal to everyone," Blair explained.

Both Beenie Man and D'Angel said that they are grateful for the Blair's prayers.

"I embrace all the prayers that he is giving, because it's all about positiveness. Prayer is the strongest thing on the earth, so if somebody is praying for you to be better and be stronger in anything that you're doing, I embrace that 100 per cent," Beenie Man said.

"I am a man of God. I love God in my own way, and I pray to God everyday."

He, however, said he has no plans of becoming a baptised Christian.

D'Angel, who buried her recently, also expressed gratitude.

"I just want to say thanks to the Reverend and ask him to continue keeping me in his prayers. I am a God-fearing person and someone that is very influential among the youths, mainly from Spanish Town, but I've always had challenges that I have to overcome," she said.

We Can’t Continue Like This Jamaica, Violence And Crime Must End Artiste Said

International recording artiste Mr Vegas has decided to stage a prayer vigil Yesterday in Luke Lane, downtown Kingston between 4:30 and 7 p.m. in memory of Demario Whyte, a two-year-old boy who was allegedly shot and killed in the area.

The dancehall artiste who recently decided to give his life to Jesus, said he is keeping the vigil to send a strong message to criminals that they must stop murdering the innocent youths of Jamaica.

“The life of an innocent two-year-old child was recently snuffed out by heartless gunmen, what they did to little Demario is barbaric. We can’t continue like this Jamaica, something has to be done we have to send a message to them to let them know that they must stop killing our children,” said Vegas. "Jesus said 'Suffer the little children to come unto to me and I will give them rest'. We are doing this Vigil for Demario who’s now resting in the arms of the saviour."

Vegas appeal to members of the public to come out on time for the vigil and bring candles and flowers.

“I want everyone to come on time, take candles and flowers, let's send a strong message to killers; it’s time to let them know that the violence and crime must end,” he said.

I See Nothing Wrong I Did Not Disrespect My Flag'

Danielle D.I. fights back amid backlash

Seemingly bothered by the backlash she received online for painting the Jamaican flag on her body in celebration of country's success at the recently concluded Olympics, dancehall artiste Danielle D.I. is now attempting to put the brakes on bullies who have been attacking her on social media.

Following Jamaica's Olympic team's outstanding performance in Rio, Brazil, the controversial deejay had her body painted in the black, green and gold of the Jamaican flag. That, however, did not go down well with many persons, some of whom said she had disrespected the flag.

But Danielle D.I. is convinced she did not go too far with her body painting. fully covered

"I see nothing wrong with what I am doing, and I do not believe my photos were distasteful. My private parts were fully covered, and I am living my truth and showing love to my country," she said.

"There is no way in heaven I would even try to disrespect my country and my flag. I proudly wear my Jamaican sash throughout the world. It is a matter of opinion because what is distasteful to one is artistic, creative, and fresh to another. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. At the end of the day, I was fully covered and was wearing underwear. So I think there is nothing wrong with art expression."

According to the Rebel singer, critics are biased and selective of whom they target, while international stars are given the freedom to live as they see it fit.

"I see girls like Rihanna and Nicki Minaj pushing boundaries and creating controversy. They are the hot girls of the world, and they have been making history without planning it," Danielle D.I. told THE STAR.

Danielle D.I., who holds dual citizenship, also went viral on July 4 after she posted a photo on her Instagram page sporting a full body painting of the American flag. The image was one of the top trending images on Instagram globally, and was later reported by some viewers who felt the photo was too edgy
