Barbados born recording artiste Rihanna, now has the No.1 song on the Billboard Hot 100, follows the release of the music video for her viral hit record, Work, on Monday.
Benefiting from some steamy footage inspired by the Jamaican dancehall scene, Work, rose above competition from Justin Beiber, who held the No.1 spot last week. Interestingly, Beiber also held the No.1 spot with the dancehall-flavoured, Sorry.
Dancehall as a genre, appears to be experiencing a revival on the international scene, only not with many Jamaican artistes at the forefront. Major Lazer?s Lean On, which merges EDM with dancehall, is now at No.49 after 46 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Sia?s Cheap Thrills, which features Sean Paul, now sits at No. 81, making Sean Paul the only Jamaican act representing the genre on the chart.
Summer 16, Drake?s second dis record aimed at American rapper Meek Mill, has climbed the chart this week and is now at No.31. However, Meek Mill failed to get any chart success with his response record, War Pain.
On the reggae side of things, Morgan Heritage returned to the top 10 this week after a long hiatus. The Grammy-wining effort, Strictly Roots, rose to No.6 and was the chart?s greatest gainer.
VP Record?s Reggae Gold, remains at No.1 while Jah Cure comfortably sits at No.2 for the second week.
