Gully Bop tired of people taking advantage

Dancehall artiste Gully Bop said he is tired of people taking advantage of him, especially those put in charge of managing his career.

A disappointed Bop said that he is now contemplating leaving the island's shores in hopes of finding someone he can trust with his career.

The artiste said that he has had too many bad experiences with the local persons put in charge of his career and wants to now explore his options.

He claims that he has not been able to hold onto a manager because people are always trying to take advantage of him. "Everybody just want to use Bop and leave," he said. "Dem just a look out fi themselves and not my interests. Dem just want to take wat they can get, and I'm tired of it."

The deejay went on to reveal that he will be travelling overseas soon in hopes of finding a new manager. "Right now, a overseas me a look yah cause di people dem out here a users. It's time for me to look out for myself and, right now, that mean say mi affi look outside."

Bop said he is planning on travelling to Canada or the United States to find someone. Although he is adamant about finding someone outside of the country to manage his career, Bop has not totally given up on his people.

"It's not like mi a count out nuhbody because if me find somebody here weh really want fi help mi and not themself, den I will give them a chance, but right now, mi affi try somebody new," the deejay said.

The entertainer recently parted ways with manager Karl Durrant. Durrant had taken up the responsibility of managing the artiste after ex-fiance Chin Chin gave up the position following a nasty fall-out between the two. The relationship between Durrant and Bop, however, was short-lived.

WINSTON ‘Merritone’ Blake, Died At Age 75

A giant of Jamaica’s music industry, "Merritone Blake" die on Saturday, Feburary 27, at age 75.

His friend and neighbour, Michael Hall, told the Jamaica Observer that the legendary sound system man died at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).

Hall said Blake suffered a stroke in January and was recuperating at home. On Wednesday he was admitted to the UHWI after feeling ill.
Doctors there said he ‘took a turn for the worst’ on Friday and died at 5:30 am Saturday.

The Blake family is synonymous with the Merritone sound system, which was started by father Val Blake in 1950 in St Thomas. While still at Kingston College, Winston and his older brother Trevor took over operations of the ‘set’ in 1956 when their father died.

Winston Blake was also a music producer and promoter of talent contests that helped to launch the careers of his wife Cynthia Schloss and Beres Hammond.

He produced several of Schloss’s hit songs, including Love Forever and Surround Me With Love. She died in 1999.

In recent years, he was a founding member of the Jamaica Association of Vintage Artistes, and continued to play Thursdays at the Waterfalls club in St Andrew.

Blake — who was awarded the Order of Distinction from the Jamaican Government in 1995 — is survived by brothers Trevor and Monty (Tyrone died in 2012), children and grandchildren.

Rihanna "Work" At No.1 Billboard Hot 100

Barbados born recording artiste Rihanna, now has the No.1 song on the Billboard Hot 100, follows the release of the music video for her viral hit record, Work, on Monday.
Benefiting from some steamy footage inspired by the Jamaican dancehall scene, Work, rose above competition from Justin Beiber, who held the No.1 spot last week. Interestingly, Beiber also held the No.1 spot with the dancehall-flavoured, Sorry.

Dancehall as a genre, appears to be experiencing a revival on the international scene, only not with many Jamaican artistes at the forefront. Major Lazer?s Lean On, which merges EDM with dancehall, is now at No.49 after 46 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Sia?s Cheap Thrills, which features Sean Paul, now sits at No. 81, making Sean Paul the only Jamaican act representing the genre on the chart.
Summer 16, Drake?s second dis record aimed at American rapper Meek Mill, has climbed the chart this week and is now at No.31. However, Meek Mill failed to get any chart success with his response record, War Pain.

On the reggae side of things, Morgan Heritage returned to the top 10 this week after a long hiatus. The Grammy-wining effort, Strictly Roots, rose to No.6 and was the chart?s greatest gainer.
VP Record?s Reggae Gold, remains at No.1 while Jah Cure comfortably sits at No.2 for the second week.

Clarke File Lawsuit against Third World Band

Bouvier Clarke, the widow of late reggae singer William Clarke, aka 'Bunny Rugs', has rubbished claims that she and her family are trying to damage the name and reputation of internationally renowned reggae band Third World, this after lawyers representing the band claimed that Clarke's pending lawsuit against Third World is a ploy to damage the band's "good name".

Clarke told The Jamaica Gleaner that her decision to file a lawsuit against the band is based on their negligence and not her own agenda.

"This is really hard for me and very stressful," she said. "It is not something I want to do because the relationship my late husband had with the band was not a negative one ... . They were like brothers, but I've been trying to reach out to the band regarding money/payments owed to my husband and I have not been getting any response."

She went on to say that she has no knowledge of the types of contracts her late husband signed with the band and has been seeking to find out exactly what
