Fans Claim Chronixx Diss Kartel Calling Him a Cannibal

Reggae artiste Chronixx is again under fire on social media. This time at the hands of Vybz Kartel's die hard fans, who claim Chronixx was disrespectful to the incarcerated artiste by classifying him as a cannibal.

Chronixx who made the comment during a recent interview about crime and Jamaican music, has been relatively missing from the Jamaican media since his controversial 'waste man' statement that was directed at United States President Barack Obama last year.

In the recent interview in which he made strong criticisms of Vybz Kartel, Chronixx also lashed the media for its tendency to highlight negative issues.

"A man will write an article about how bad this generation is all the time. But how many articles will you see about the good? We have become a very negative driven people. Vybz Kartel has done a lot of good things in life, I must say so. It's just that we pull the negative out of each other and we pay people for the bad," he said.

"Gangsterism, Cannibalism ... because Vybz Kartel overtime became a cannibal. When you listen his music it was very cannibalistic. It became so pleasant to the human like there is a thing in us that craves chopping up people and beheading people and cut out a man inside."

Chronixx also brought Vybz Kartel's single Kill Dem All And Done under the microscope, selling the idea that the content was not positive for youth, yet they crave such material.

"When you see how youth react to a song that says go and kill everybody, kill dem all and done ... and everybody excited," he said, laughing.

Chronixx's comments were seemingly meant to enlighten listeners. However, as expected, fans of Vybz Kartel decided to attack the artiste.

These are a few of the comment posted on Facebook

Lose off a him from him call President  Obama a waste man....I don't see Kartel singing about "kill them all a done" means he is a   cannibal, its a song like so many others....Because a cannibal is someone who eats human flesh,

I never hears that Kartel ate anyone before...just some loose argument that he needs to be empowered instead of just shooting off at the lips

"Di man get fight more than every artiste in this world. The man behind bars and a run it and dem still a try fight di boss. Free di music daddy," one fan posted on Facebook.

Another then attacked Chronixx saying, "Chronixx, you can't walk in Vybz Kartel shoes. You are below the food chain level. You think your song Who Knows is nothing? Bwoy, mi not even a go disrespect you 'cause you are a lost cause. Yuh not bad like him finger tip."

Some fans also felt Vybz Kartel should be allowed to serve his time without backlash, as he was not the first to sing explicit songs.

"Chronixx, don't go there with that bull. The man in jail, give the man a break do your thing. I am 50 and I have been going to dance before you was born. Deejays like Echo Slackness and Yellow Man used to sing slackness long before Kartel," one viewer posted.

Though the majority of the comments showed support for Vybz Kartel, there were a few persons who supported Chronixx.

"This a very intelligent analysis of the impact that dark mind dancehall artistes have on the Jamaican society. Their degradation of self, murderous messages, unhealthy sexual practises and the promotion of the fast life cannot go unnoticed," a Facebook user posted.

Efforts to get a follow-up comment from Chronixx were unsuccessful.

Buju Send Message To Fans

Imprisoned artiste Buju Banton has reached out to fans, pleading with them “not be distracted by all the things that are taking place around them”.

In a statement published in Vibe Magazine’s popular Boomshots column, Buju, 43, also blasted contemporary music, describing it as “meaningless”.

The Grammy-winning singjay is in the fifth of a 10-year sentence on drug-related offences. He is serving time in a federal prison in Florida.
The following is the full text of Buju’s statement.

“Tell my fans do not be distracted by all the things that are taking place around them because it is designed to throw them off kilter, to make moral decadence even more widespread than it already is, and plunge people into a state of darkness.

“They’re trying to reverse the progress that we have made over the years through the music. And now the music is meaningless. It doesn’t stimulate, it doesn’t educate, it doesn’t reinvigorate.

All it does is get you angry because it’s filled with nothing but narcissists exalting themselves over the earthly possessions that they have managed to get. They don’t even have anything—it’s crumbs.

“And therefore, the music is suffering. The people are suffering. Sadness and gloom is prevailing. It’s widespread. But be patient. Because suffering may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
